Saturday is Youthful
Voices Day at Camp! On March 31, young tellers are invited to join 2007
Virginia Rivers Youthful Voices StoryCamp Scholarship recipients, and FSA
Youthful Voices StoryTroupe members in a day of learning, laughing, and
telling.
This "hands on" workshop
will feature professional Florida storytellers who will facilitate and
coach. The day will hold a wide variety of storytelling topics from personal
appearance to fable adaptation. A meet and greet lunch is planned. Your
young teller's registration also includes admission to the evening's 2007
FSA Youthful Voices Concert.
FSA StoryLabs began
with a StoryLab at Santa Fe Community College in September 2005. Dr.
Flora Joy led over 60 adult participants in learning to coach and
mentor children. The 2005 YV, working under Scott Smith and Bob
Lightner, produced a DVD explaining How to Produce an Effective DVD.
This DVD was the fundraising project of the group. DVDs are available
by contacting Ann Scroggie. In
addition, the YV group gave a benefit concert raising over $400 to
benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Gainesville.
The second StoryLab
was held in Tampa in November 2006. Led by Mitchell O'Read and members
of the FSA community who are promoting young storytellers, the adult
workshop became a Florida Swap Shop wherein ideas and resources were
exchanged. As with the previous StoryLab, YV were busy with their own
workshop where they learned storytelling techniques, received their
own Story Box, and presented a concert to launch the Florida Story Box
project.
(DVDs of both
concerts are available for purchase.)
